Environmental Engineering & Disaster Management

Environmental Engineering & Disaster Management is an English medium textbook for B.Tech. first-year students of RTU, Kota (I & II Semester). The book begins with the basics of environment, environmental segments, types of pollution and the main acts and regulations for environmental protection, then moves to ecosystems, biodiversity and its conservation, and population dynamics. Later chapters deal with water pollution, water quality standards, waste water management and rain water harvesting; solid waste management including collection, treatment, disposal, energy recovery and sanitary landfill; and air and noise pollution with acid rain, global warming and ozone depletion. The disaster section covers natural disasters such as floods, cloud bursts, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides, man-made hazards like chemical, industrial and nuclear accidents, the disaster profile of India, and the disaster management cycle with risk, vulnerability and preventive measures. Technical terminology, important short answer type questions and an appendix of important topics support exam revision. Written by Dr. Vivek Pandey, Dr. Sama Jain and Dr. A. K. Dwivedi in 256 pages, it suits RTU engineering students taking this first-year paper.
