This policy explains what we store on your device when you use our website, why we store it, and how you can control it. "Cookies" here is used broadly and includes similar technologies such as browser local storage.

When you first visit our site we ask you to choose which categories you allow. Strictly necessary items cannot be switched off, because the site does not work without them. Analytics
We do not currently set any analytics cookies. We record your preference now so that it applies automatically if we introduce analytics in future. If you allow this category, it would cover tools that tell us which pages are visited and how the site performs, in aggregate.
Marketing
We do not currently set any marketing or advertising cookies. We record your preference now so that it applies automatically if that ever changes. If you allow this category, it would cover tools used to measure or personalise advertising, and it also allows the embedded content described below to load without asking you each time.
Embedded content from other providers
Some pages include content hosted by other companies — for example the map of our office on the Contact page, and the video and press coverage on our Fiction book page, which are provided by Google, YouTube and NDTV.
Embedded content of this kind is never loaded until you allow it. There are two ways to allow it, and you are always free to do neither:
- Allow marketing cookies — embedded maps and videos then load automatically wherever they appear. You can withdraw this at any time under “Cookie preferences”, after which they go back to asking.
- Load it once — press the button shown in place of the content. That choice applies to that visit only and is not stored anywhere.
Until you do one of those, nothing at all is requested from that provider. Once content loads, the provider may set cookies on your device and receive your IP address, and their own privacy and cookie policies apply to what they do with it. You can always use the link we provide to open the content directly on the provider's own site instead.
Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you view, delete and block cookies through their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in and completing an order. Clearing your cookies will also clear the record of your consent choice, so we will ask you again on your next visit.
